Libraries and Literacy: Moving Forward

National Summit on Libraries and Literacy

The National Summit on Libraries and Literacy, themed "Moving Forward", was held on June 14, 2006 in Ottawa. The Canadian Library Association (CLA), with the support of the National Literacy Secretariat, were very pleased to present this exciting opportunity for representatives from libraries, literacy organizations, government agencies, and adult learner groups to meet, share, learn, and strategize.

Together, we endeavoured to:

  • Develop strategies to increase information sharing, among libraries AND between libraries and literacy organizations
  • Plan initiatives to increase collaboration
  • Inform about existing library and literacy initiatives locally and internationally
  • Create concrete tasks that will enable us to move forward with a national vision for library/literacy initiatives and collaborations
